Environmental Service Featured Project: Air Base Cercla Assessment, Investigation, and Feasibility Study

EMR completed a historical records search, site assessment, site investigation, remedial investigation, feasibility study, and record of decision for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) soil and groundwater was impacted with JP-4 Jet Fuel, Tetracholorethene (TCE), and TCE daughter products. EMR’s team initiated success by a Historical Records Search finding past sources with maps dating to the 1940s. We unified the aerial and utility data by creating a geo-database. Sample data and HD fly over photography was added. The work was conducted in FAA compliance and without disruption to current tenant, the U.S. largest active single engine aircraft manufacturer. The assessment and investigation phases spanned three project areas and 165 soil, 190 groundwater, and 13 soil vapor samples. Work plans included Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments. EMR was able to discover unknown sources of fuel piping and acted to save client resources by removing unnecessary analyses and scope. EMR screened, evaluated and ranked remedial alternatives in terms of cost, effectiveness, and implementability. A publically reviewed record of decision was completed. The site is now undergoing remediation. EMR was accommodated by the US Army Corps of Engineers for their excellence and integrity with which the work was performed.
